EVEN START FAMILY LITERACYEven Start's goal is to improve literacy of all members of the family, while promoting parental involvement in their children’s education as the child’s first and most important teacher. This program is offered in Washington and Greene counties. ADULT EDUCATION / GED CLASSESAdult Education Program/GED Classes provided in both Washington and Greene counties offers assistance in: preparing for the GED test: preparing for post secondary education; improving math, reading and writing skills and preparing to assist children with their education. KINDERGARTEN CLUBKindergarten Club is designed to help transition children into the school environment. Kindergarten Club is held in kindergarten classrooms during the summer months, at elementary schools throughout Greene county whereas children have an opportunity to become familiar with the room and the school facility. The program is offered in all five Greene County school districts. HEAD START / EARLY HEAD STARTHead Start provides comprehensive child development programs that serve low-income children from birth to age 5, pregnant women and their families in Washington and Greene counties. The program is child-focused with the overall goal of increasing school readiness of young children in low-income families.
PARENT-CHILD HOME PROGRAM (PCHP)Parent Child Home Program (PCHP) is an innovative, home-based literacy and parenting program serving families in Washington and Greene counties that are challenged by poverty, low levels of education, language barriers and other obstacles to prepare them to attain future educational success. PARENTING CLASSParenting Classes provided in Greene County offer parents a friendly, supportive environment led by parents and other caregivers to openly discuss the successes and challenges of raising children. COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERSCommunity Learning Centers (CLC) provide access to computer technology at four sites throughout Washington and Greene counties. Students of any age can access computer labs with internet access and on-site instruction. CAPWORKSCAPWorks is a program for low-income individuals of Washington and Greene counties who are ready for economic self-sufficiency and are motivated to work toward that goal. HOUSING SUPPORT SERVICESHousing Support Services, provided in Greene County, offer a comprehensive array of housing and homeless services to homeless and near homeless Greene County individuals and families, with self-sufficiency as the objective. CONSUMER / FAMILY SATISFACTION TEAM (CFST)Consumer Family Satisfaction Team (CFST) works to enhance consumer/family member involvement with the many mental health and substance abuse services available to Washington County residents. SENIOR CENTERSSenior Centers play a vital role in Greene County in helping older adults maintain a healthy and active lifestyle by providing access to community resources and services. SUPPORTED WORK PROGRAM / SUPPORTED ENGAGEMENTSupported Work Program/Supported Engagement Program prepares and assists public assistance recipients to obtain unsubsidized employment and to provide work opportunities for post-24 month cash assistance recipients. This program serves residents of both Washington and Greene counties. PROJECT SAVEProject Save helps individuals and families save money, develops the habit of saving for important goals in their lives and teaches participants to be money smart. For every dollar saved, Project SAVE will match 100 percent of the savings - up to $2,000 in a one to two year period. The program provides economic literacy seminars, case management and budget counseling to residents of Washington and Greene counties. HOUSING AND UTILITIESHousing & Utility Program provides a wide range of programs and information to help families and individuals who reside in Washington or Greene County with the rising costs of utilities and other housing related problems. VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAMVolunteer Income Tax Assistance works under the auspices of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). The program provides Washington and Greene county residents with free, basic, online tax filing assistance to low-income, working taxpayers who are eligible to claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a refundable tax break for people who work but do not earn high income. WICWomen Infants & Children (WIC) provides a range of nutrition services in a supportive environment for pregnant women, postpartum and breastfeeding women and infants and children under age five who reside in Washington or Greene counties. GREENE COUNTY FAMILY CENTERGreene County Family Center is a vehicle for integrating and providing services to help children and families become healthy, safe and self-sufficient. MALE INVOLVEMENTMale Involvement program encourages fathers in Washington and Greene counties to take a conscientious look at raising their children and teaches fathers of their role and their importance in their children’s lives. PLAY GROUPSPlay Groups provide weekly opportunities for families of preschool children in Greene County to interact together in activities which strengthen social and networking skills. FATHERHOOD INITIATIVEFatherhood Initiative offers fathers in Greene County the opportunity to become better role models for their children and strengthen the father-child bond by offering workshops, home visits and services to fathers who are living with their child and also to incarcerated fathers. FAMILY REUNIFICATION PROJECTFamily Reunification Project, provided in Greene County, is intended to strengthen and support families by providing immediate and appropriate reunification services to parents and children in foster care. ELDERCAREEldercare offers a relaxed and familiar environment creating a “home of the heart” feeling for seniors in Greene County that have a functional impairment and are in need of a structured day. PRIME-TIME HEALTHPrime Time Health is a responsive and invigorating education program in Greene County which addresses interests of seniors in our community. IN-HOME SERVICESIn Home Services help adults 60 years of age and older in Greene County to remain active in their communities and independent in their homes. CARE MANAGEMENTCare Management involves trained caseworkers who interview consumers in Greene County in their home to assess their needs which may include home-delivered meals, in-home services, adult day care, PACE assistance, energy assistance or rent/tax rebates. OMBUDSMANOmbudsman is a “citizen representative” for older adults in Greene County who addresses complaints and acts as an advocate for residents who have issues concerning care being received in long-term care settings. SENIOR OUTREACH AND REFERRAL (SOAR)Senior Outreach and Referral (SOAR), of Greene County, trains interested people to recognize symptoms that an older person may need assistance.
COUNTING KIDS TOGETHER PRE-K PROGRAM... a high quality learning experience Counting Kids Together provides high quality pre-kindergarten to young children in Washington and Greene counties, by helping Pennsylvania children reach their promise through Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts. Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts, established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, is bringing quality half-day and full day pre-kingarten to 11,000 3 and 4 year olds in Pennsylvania.
